Transparent Basins: Glass Pools and Spas

"Transparency transforms the pool into a true architectural masterpiece. When stainless steel, glass, and engineering combine, water ceases to be merely a basin and becomes a visual and emotional experience."

Aquatic Glazing: The Elegance of Transparency in Architecture

Long reserved for the most exclusive projects, transparent pools and spas have now become true architectural signatures. Far more than simple basins, these creations transform water into a staging element, playing with light, reflections, and perspectives, pushing the traditional boundaries of the aquatic world.

At STEEL AND STYLE, we design transparent pools and spas, and the most incredible aquatic glazing installations.

Fully customized, intended for luxury villas, rooftops, hotels, and exceptional architectural projects worldwide.

The Rise of Transparent Pools in Contemporary Architecture

The transparent pool has established itself as one of the symbols of contemporary luxury. It is no longer limited to a simple swimming function: it becomes an architectural object in its own right.

Panoramic glass walls, submerged portholes, fully transparent corners, or even glass pool bottoms create unique visual experiences where water seems to float in space. These designs enhance the relationship between the pool and its environment, offering spectacular through-views of a landscape, a rooftop, or an interior space.

This architectural approach is particularly sought after in high-end projects where the goal is to create a "wow" effect while maintaining a minimalist and elegant aesthetic.

Structural Glass and PMMA: Two Technologies for Transparency

In the world of glass pools and transparent spas, two materials dominate today: structural glass and PMMA.

  • Structural glass, typically tempered and multi-laminated, offers exceptional transparency and an extremely premium finish. It is particularly valued for glass walls, portholes, or transparent corners where visual purity is essential. Its crystalline rendering, mechanical resistance, and durability make it a preferred solution for the most prestigious architectural projects.
  • Monolithic PMMA (Plexiglas), often called structural acrylic, allows for the creation of very large pieces with freer shapes and spectacular visual continuity.
Monolithic PMMA also offers a major aesthetic advantage: assemblies and bonds become virtually invisible after polishing, allowing for perfectly transparent and extremely visually pure surfaces.
Unlike glass, PMMA diffuses and refracts light more softly, often offering a more crystalline perception underwater and particularly immersive optical effects. This ability to transmit light with very little distortion explains why PMMA is widely used in panoramic aquariums and large observation tanks.
Thanks to its mechanical and optical properties, PMMA also allows for the creation of very large monolithic pieces, particularly suited for transparent pools, panoramic spas, and architectural glass bottoms.

At STEEL AND STYLE, each project is specifically studied to determine the best technology according to structural, aesthetic, and hydraulic constraints.

Rooftop Pools and Suspended Basins: The Technical Expertise Behind the Aesthetics

Transparent pools take on their full dimension when integrated into rooftops, terraces, or suspended structures.

These projects require an extremely advanced engineering approach. Unlike a traditional concrete pool, a self-supporting stainless steel pool significantly reduces loads while ensuring perfect watertightness and great architectural freedom.

The 316L stainless steel structures used by STEEL AND STYLE are designed to accommodate glass walls or PMMA elements while meeting the most demanding constraints: weight, transport, site access, expansion, hydraulics, and hydrostatic resistance.

In some cases, the basins are entirely fabricated on-site when lifting or transport constraints make the installation of a monolithic shell impossible.

The Glass Spa: A New Wellness Experience

The transparent spa now represents one of the most advanced expressions of luxury wellness.

Thanks to the combination of stainless steel, glass, and immersive technologies, it is now possible to create unique sensory spaces. Glass spas designed by STEEL AND STYLE incorporate mirror overflows, ergonomic seating, LED lighting, advanced massage systems, and high-end automated filtration.

Some models, like the ICEKUB, go even further with the integration of a transparent bottom equipped with SUBMERSCREEN technology, an submerged screen capable of projecting videos and visual environments directly underwater. Seabeds, immersive textures, lighting effects, or cinematic universes transform the spa into a true multi-sensory experience.

These installations naturally find their place in hotel suites, private rooftops, luxury, or immersive spas.

STEEL AND STYLE, transparent pool and glass spa specialists

STEEL AND STYLE works on stainless steel pool, glass spa, and aquatic glazing projects across Europe and internationally.

Our expertise includes:

  • transparent pools,
  • glass spas,
  • rooftop basins,
  • suspended pools,
  • submerged portholes,
  • transparent bottoms,
  • PMMA structures,
  • immersive wellness spaces.

Each project is entirely customized to meet architectural constraints and the client's desired experience.

Transparent pools and glass spas embody a new generation of aquatic structures where the boundary between engineering and architecture completely disappears.

Thanks to stainless steel, structural glass, and PMMA, it is possible to create spectacular, lightweight, durable, and fully immersive installations.

STEEL AND STYLE supports architects, developers, hotels, and individuals in the design and construction of these exceptional aquatic projects worldwide.
