In Hossegor, Steel and Style built an indoor stainless steel pool at the heart of a wellness space. The 316L stainless steel shell is semi-recessed into a wooden deck, next to a sauna. LED lighting brings the stainless steel floor to life, a water blade animates the pool, and every accessory, from the ladder to the skimmer, is made of stainless steel.

A pool designed as a room in its own right

The project occupies a dedicated wellness room, lit by a row of high windows. The pool stretches the full length of the room, with the wooden sauna at the far end. Dark walls and indirect ceiling lighting give the water’s glow centre stage.

Indoors, the stainless steel shell offers a decisive advantage: it arrives finished, with no render or coating to apply and dry on site. Work inside the home is shorter and cleaner.

A shell semi-recessed into a wooden deck

The pool is not fully sunk into the ground. Its stainless steel coping sits slightly above the wooden deck, with a step providing access. This approach limits excavation work in an existing home and keeps the services easily accessible.

The coping is welded and finished at the corners: no joints, no add-on pieces, just a clean line running all the way around the pool.

Stainless steel water blade and skimmer

A stainless steel water blade is set directly on the wooden deck. Its perforated cover conceals the nozzle, while the sheet of water flowing into the pool brings the sound of water into the entire room.

Filtration is handled by a skimmer integrated into the wall, also made of stainless steel and fitted with a matching perforated cover. In an indoor pool, the air matters as much as the water: our guide to indoor pools, dehumidification and air treatment explores the available solutions.

An accessible shell for easy maintenance

Below the deck, the outer wall of the shell is fitted with stainless steel access panels. They provide access to the fittings and connections without having to dismantle anything. This accessibility is one of the advantages of a 316L stainless steel pool designed in our workshop: the pipework is planned alongside the structure from the outset.

Lighting as the defining feature of the space

LED spotlights recessed into the walls bathe the pool in blue light. The texture of the stainless steel floor catches the light and creates a pattern that changes with the movement of the water. Recessed spotlights in the wooden deck and at the base of the walls complete the effect.

The result

The pool, sauna and wooden deck form a coherent whole, with stainless steel tying every element together. For other compact projects, see the TINY rooftop mini pool in Antibes and our guide to basement pools.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about indoor stainless steel pools

Why choose stainless steel for an indoor pool?

The shell is made in a workshop and delivered finished: no concrete to dry or lining to install in the home. 316L stainless steel is watertight, durable and easy to clean.

Can you install a stainless steel pool without digging?

Yes. A self-supporting stainless steel shell can be installed above ground or semi-recessed into a wooden deck, as in Hossegor. This limits the work required in an existing home.

How do you manage humidity in an indoor pool?

The room needs a dehumidification system suited to its volume and the water temperature, as well as a pool cover when it is not in use. The system is sized during the design phase.

What lighting works best for a stainless steel pool?

LED spotlights recessed into the stainless steel walls, with white or coloured light. The stainless steel base reflects the light and highlights the water surface.

Can a stainless steel pool accommodate a water curtain?

Yes. The water curtain can be placed on the pool deck, as seen here, or integrated into the wall. It is connected to the filtration system.
